Fundraising campaign to take legal steps against illegal detention of thousands of migrants in LT

"Dear all,

We are thousands of asylum seekers being indefinitely detained in around five camps in Lithuania. Those camps are actual prisons in which the Lithuanian authorities have been arbitrarily and illegally detaining thousands of refugees, men and women, from Africa (Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gambia, Ghana, Somalia, Togo, Ivory Coast) as well as from the Middle East and Asia (Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Syria).

Over 4000 people crossed the EU border from Belarus to Lithuania to seek asylum since June 2021. Only about a hundred of us got their asylum granted. The rest of us are being held in detention and/or forced to return to the same countries we fled.

We are treated like criminals by the Lithuanian authorities even though we did not commit any crimes! Every human being is entitled under International Law to apply for asylum - so are we! Crossing the border without permission in order to apply for asylum is not a crime according to Article 31 of the Geneva Convention!

We want to start legal proceedings at the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and at the European Court of Human Rights against the Lithuanian Government. For that we need your financial support as lawyers are very costly. Please help us to get access to our rights, to freedom and to human dignity! This fundraising is our only hope, as strikes, demos and talks did not change our situation. Please, help us!

Any amount of donation is welcome to help us win this fight against the violation of human rights.

Here are some sources to better understand what we are going through:"
