A Journey into Exile: An Interactive Refugee Simulation in Lithuania

Updated: 3 days ago

What if you had to leave everything behind?

What would you take with you? Where would you go? Who would you trust? And what choices would you make if your safety — and your future — depended on them?

This September, we invite you to experience A Journey into Exile, an interactive simulation that puts participants in the shoes of people forced to flee war and persecution. The event is organized as part of Kindness Month.

Month of Kindness is a national initiative aimed at turning giving and charitable donations in Lithuania into a meaningful annual tradition. Take part yourself, invite members of your community or colleagues, and let’s create a chain of good deeds: gerumomenesis.lt

Experience the journey. Make the choices. See beyond the statistics.

During the simulation, you will take on the role of a refugee with your own story and circumstances. You will face difficult choices, navigate uncertainty, explore different paths to safety, and work with others to reach a safer place.

Along the way, you will encounter real refugee testimonies, short videos, unexpected challenges, and stories of resilience.

This is not a lecture — and it is not simply a game.

It is a space to experience, reflect and ask questions about what forced displacement really means.

Why take part?

Refugees are more than statistics and headlines. Behind every number is a person with a history, hopes, relationships and difficult decisions to make.

The simulation aims to help participants:

  • better understand the realities of forced displacement;

  • explore the difficult choices people fleeing conflict may face;

  • build empathy and solidarity;

  • reflect on how refugees are perceived and welcomed in host communities;

  • connect global experiences of displacement with the realities of Lithuania and the Baltic and Eastern European region.

The experience will also address regional perspectives, including migration dynamics, misinformation and the challenges surrounding displacement in our region.
